NOTES FROM AUCKLAND

(Special to Daily Times) AUCKLAND, January 14. A light rain fell at intervals during training operations at Ellerslie to-day, but the ’going was good. Most of the fast work was done on the No. 2 grass with the poles sft out. The best sprints of the morning were recorded by Rereatu and Fleetwind.

Professional and Ringshot were on terms at the end of five furlongs in Imin ssec, both doing their work well. Enlightenment easily beat Sir Abb over six furlongs in Imin 17see. It was a useful gallop for the former, but Sir Abb went much below his usual standard. To Hai was going better than Marlene at the finish of half a mile in 52 3-sseo. He seems to have freshened up a little since his return from Taranaki, Hunting Maid ran seven furlongs m Imin 35sec, the last three in 42 2-ssec. The easy track conditions should enable this mare to show up at approaching meetings. Kelly hit out freely over half a mile in 51sec, and seems likely to return to form soon.

Tidalia sprinted half a mile in 50 4-5 sec. Her condition is very good, and she did her work pleasingly. Gay Broney ran a circuit in Imin 48 2-ssec, the last seven furlongs in Imin 34sec. He picked up Gay Princess and beat her home over the last five furlongs in Imin 7 2-ssec. Gay Broney did his work in good style. . Rereatu, with a light-weight, ran six furlongs in Imin 16sec, after taking 37 ]-ssec for the first three. This was the best gallop of the morning, and Rereatu is training on in fine style. Vera Acre sprinted half a mile In 52sec. She is looking very fit after her racing at Christmas. Vahnint moved evenly over six furlongs in Imin 21 3-ssec. He is looking well, and may have his next outing at the Takapuna meeting. Riding engagements for the first day of the Thames Jockey Club’s meeting tomorrow are as follows:—H. N. The easy tracks have enabled his owner to give him plenty of solid work without causing him to go sore, and he should strip fit for his Wellington engagements.
