BOWLING

DOMINION TOURNAMENT THE RINKS COMPETITION SECTIONAL PLAY CONCLUDED (Per United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, January 14. Sectional play in. the New Zealand bowling championships ended to-day when the last round of the Rinks Competition was played. Thirty-seven rinks from 13 sections qualified for the post-section play. For all post-sectional play the games in the Rinks Championship will take precedence, and games in the Singles and Pairs Competitions will be played as the men are available. Few of those who were expected to qualify for the post-sectional play failed to do so, and in this respect the Rinks sectional rounds did not provide many surprises, although the defeats in the individual rounds had often been most unexpected. Of the 37 teams left in only two were unbeaten m all eight games—the Dunedin rink skipped by W. Anderson, who had been playing exceptionally well, and the Onehunga.rink with F. Livingstone as skip, who had not looked like losing a game in the eignt played. Six rinks bad one loss, and the remaining 28 qualified by having six wins. Actually the number of wins m the sectional play will make no difference to the post-sectional play, because every rink which is eligible will begin with two lives. The games will be played on the automatic two-life system. THE QUALIFYING RINKS Those qualifying were as follows: EIGHT WINS. Onehunga f Livingstone). Dunedin (Anderson). SEVEN WINS.
