SEARCH FOR HUSBAND

THE QUEST EXTENDED LONDON NEWSPAPER JOINS IN When a London typist wrote to the Mayor of Dunedin to enlist his aid in securing her a husband she started more tjian she dreamed of. New, Zealand bachelors have been so intrigued by this offer to provide them with a wife and a mother-in-law too that they have responded to the tune of about half a dozen applications a day for the girl's address.

Now a great London newspaper has joined in the hunt. It is not particularly interested in finding the girl one of those “ kind and chivalrous ” New Zealanders of whom she wrote, but wants to provide its readers with a story of the typist who extended her matrimonial quest to far-off New Zealand. Anl so yesterday the Mayor’s correspondence included a cablegram from the editor of the London newspaper which read : —“ If you will cable the address of the London girl seeking a New Zealand husband we will give you all reasonable help.”

But the terms of the girl’s letter have made it impossible for Mr Cox to divulge her name and address. He has, however, entered into the spirit of the thing, and has cabled to the girl advising her of the publicity which she may have for the asking and leaving ,thc decision to her. It would be too bad for those uxoriously inclined New Zealanders if, after all, the quest is extended to England and some near-at-hand wooer wins the wife who is to be had by taking the mother-in-law too.
