TOBACCO GROWING
PROTECTION FOR INDUSTRY A MINISTERIAL PROMISE. (Per United Press Association) NELSON, January 13. Replying to a deputation of the Nelson Provincial Tobacco Growers’ Association, the Minister of Public Works (Mr R. Semple) said that the Government was not going to allow the New Zealand tobacco industry to be crucified. He considered it treason to allow industries to perish and then send money from the Dominion to other countries. The Government would also see that an evenly balanced board was appointed, and would go into the matter of placing the New Zealand tobacco industry on its feet.
