The Palmerston Institute held itß monthly meeting in the Clark Hall on Thursday, January 9, Mrs Forrest presiding. It was decided to hold the annual picnic at Waikouaiti on January 29. Miss Gibb was appointed secretary temporarily in Miss Cameron’s absence. Miss M'Ritchie had on view an interesting display of antique tapestry, embroidery and tatting, some pieces being 120 years old. In the competition, “A plate of six pikelets,” judged by Mrs Morrison, Mrs Korner was first and Mrs Benson second. The other competition, which was “A sketch in crayon of a design for the institute banner,” was won by Mrs A. H. M'Gregor, with Miss Gibb second. Mrs J. M‘Gregor and Mrs Martin had charge of the social half-hour, which included a recitation by Miss Roma M'Gregor and a competition. The hostesses were Mrs Simpson, Mrs J. M'Gregor, Mrs Stevenson, Mrs Rhodes, and Miss Hitchcock.
