"SEEKING A HUSBAND”
TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —Having read in. Saturday’s Daily times of the number of men who are anxious to marry an English girl, even at considerable expense, I seek permission to ask why they do not propose to New Zealand girls. Surely there must he dozens of local girls who are merely waiting to ha asked. Even if it is Leap Year, is it not still considered “not quite nice” for the girl to propose? As I nave been left too long “on the shelf,” now being well into my thirties, I am making this appeal not for myself, but in the hope of saving other girls from sharing my fate, as, although I; am a presentable specimen of womanhood—not pretty, I must admit —but possessed of a physique as perfect as Nature’s generosity, plus physical culture, can make, it, iao man has given me a chance to refuse ferriage since I wag twenty-two. That am not altogether lacking in charm has been proved iby the unwelcome advances of men whose intentions were anything but honourable/ • ' If so many men. having satisfactory credentials, are so anxious, to, secure a wife .that 1 they are willing "to support a mother-in-law: as well (in spite Of all the popular jokes at her- expense), perhaps' they will 'be good enough -to tell ug why New Zealand girls‘fail to attract them. —-. I am, etc.. One on the' Shelf.
