ARCHERFIELD SCHOOL.

The school is an open-air school. The classrooms and sleeping balconies were built according to the plans of Sir Truby King. Girls are prepared for all the necessary public examinations, and games and physical culture have their due place in the school activities. The school specialises in its senior department. It plans to keep its senior scholars until 18 years of age, or at least for two years after matriculation. This is necessary if girls are to be prepared to Like an efficient and gracious part in home life, professional life, and community life. The teaching method, organisation, and, curriculum of the school are based uponthe following points:—(l) That selfdevelopment,” and not “ self-expression,” is the proper aim of a school. (2) That “ self-development ” demands the cultivation of individual thought, with a recognition of the need of discipline. (3) That what is needed to-day is independence of thought with community of spirit. (4) That real joy comes, from the realisation that a task has been well done. (5) That a child has a personality which is a living thing capable of growth when furnished with suitable nourishment. (6) That our ideals guide the general direction of our efforts. At Archerfield education is based on Christian ideals.
