FREE KINDERGARTENS
——.—— ; ~. BREAK-UP CEREMONIES COMMENCE The annual break-up ceremonies at the Kelsey-Yaralla and Reynolds Free Kindergartens were held yesterday in glorious summer weather, each function being attended by a large number of parents and friends. \ At the ceremony at the Kelsey-Yaralla Kindergarten, which was conducted in the morning, the president of the Dunedin Free Kindergarten Association (Mrs Ewing) congratulated-the director (Miss Wilkie) on the good work done at the school during the year, and spoke in appreciative terms of the activities of the parents and the local committee, who had done much to keep the affairs of the kindergarten on a sound footing. The children then sang Christmas songs, and the customary Christmas tree ceremony, in which each child received a gift, was carried out. Two novel and interesting toys were also presented by Miss Kelsey for the use of the children in the kindergarten. There was a very large attendance of parents at the ceremony at the Reynolds Free Kindergarten in the afternoon. Mrs Phillips, a member of the executive of the Dunedin Free Kindergarten Association, referred to the successful year experienced by the school and paid a special tribute to the activities of the director (Miss Hancock), whose tuition in music had been one of the features of the school's work. She mentioned that Miss Hancock was leaving the kindergarten at the close of the year and said that the association regretted the loss of so efficient a director. Mrs Phillips then extended thanks to the parents and the members of the local committee for their work during the year. Miss Hancock was subsequently presented with a gift by Mrs Patterson, on behalf of the mothers of the district, after which the children gave a demonstration of the usual school activities and participated in the customary distribution of gifts.
