»THE WAIRARAPA SEAT ISSUE REMAINS IN DOUBT {Pee United Press Association) CARTERTON, December 2. The returning officer now advises that the majority of Mr B. Roberts (Lab.) over Mr J. W. Card (Nat.) remains at 25, but the absentee and postal votes have increased to approximately 600. A scrutiny of the roll is in progress, and is expected to be completed on. Wednesday, after which the absentee and postal votes will be opened. No further announcement is expected till Thursday or Frtday, NOT A DEMOCRAT DISCLAIMER BY MR ATMORE. In the election returns which were published on Thursday morning Mr H. Atmore, the successful candidate for the Nelson spat, was designated as a Democrat. We are now informed by Mr Atnio.re that he had no connection with the Democrat Party, and announced himself as an Independent Liberal-Labour candidate of the Seddon-Ballanoe-Ward-M‘Ken-zie school, with monetary reform as his principal plank. lu view of this disclaimer the defeat of the Democrat Party was so complete that it failed to win a single seat in the new Parliament. '
