NOTES ON THE RACING

(Special to Daily Times) PALMERSTON N., December 2. The hurdle race was a good thing for Hunting Queen. She led all the way, and nothing had any chance with her. bpender finished on for second place after Aiguille had weakened, and then came Kaola, Midacre, and Petrarch, The winner had fallen on the first day. The favourite, Petrarch, ran a poor race, amt made a particularly bad jump at the third fence. The race the first day apparently got to the bottom of him. Entheos was favourite for the maiden race, but he was never a possibility, though the stable scored with its other runner, Middle. Black Thread ran into the lead and looked a-comfortable winner entering the straight, where he was well clear of Middle, who, however, ridden out, got up to win by a head. Version was a very poor third, followed by Trimden, Entheos. Albracadabra, Fleeting Arrow, and Battle Pomp. It looked as if the rider of Black Thread was caught napping, but the horse had had a bad fall on the track in the morning, and was probably feeling the effects. Gay Boy completely reversed his first day’s form to win the St. Andrew s Handicap, and, even allowing for the fact that it was a differently-run race, the handful who hooted his win had some excuse. Werohia made ajl the running from Gay Boy and Aga Khan, and then Alby and Davistock. Gay Boy finished better than Werohia in the run home, W ;th Davistock running on into a close third, followed by Alby, Rust, and Aga Khan.- It was far from being a true-run race, but on the way Gay Boy galloped to-day the result is unlikely to have been any different, no matter how it was run. Gay Boy carried Sib over. Courtega was better backed than Limulus in the five-horse sprint, but the latter won narrowly. Limulus was always prominent, running with Royal Routine and False Scent to the straight. He then drew clear. Courtega came through on the rails and challenged, but just failed to get up. Royal Routine was eased off in the straight when beaten, but still beat Good Hunting for third. Limulus made the third win in three starts for the stable of L, G. Morris. . . , L. G. Morris made it four in a row with the win of Laughing Lass in the two-year-old race. Laughing Lass began well, and in this respect had the call on her most dangerous opponents, Karl being slower away, while Deficit and Wagner were very poorly off. Mazzini and Mirth were with Laughing Lass to the turn, with Karl next. Laughing Lass was clear into the straight, and ran on to win handily from Karl, with Wagner finishing solidly into a close third. Deficit was fourth and Larwood next. The winner is a roan filly bv Laughing Prince, and is smart. Karl ran a solid race. Wagner, a colt by Siegfried from Polonaise, was having his first race, and he put up a rather impressive effort. Indeed, he looked unlucky not to have won. The winner carried 41b and Wagner 541 b overweight. Round Score won the hack distance event in characteristic style, lying towards the rear early and finishing solidly. Ho slipped up to the front on the rails entering the straight, and had the race won a furlpng from home. Aussie Ra was a trifle unlucky in being stopped on the turn, but he would not have beaten the winner. None of the others had any chance. * Bazaine, patiently handled by R. Reed, lasted long enough to .win the hack sprint from the favourite, Alcidee. Bazaine began well, but when Lady Eka and Quake showed a desire to lead the field Bazaine dropped in behind. Lady Eka ran very wide into the straight, where Alcides had run up on the outer. Bazaine. however, came through on the rails and held off Alcides to win handily. Lady Eka weakened to a poor third, with All Spirit fourth and Quake next. Lifeguard tried to win the last event all the way. He went very fast into the lead early, although drawn wide, and was still in front halfway up the straight, but Midian, always handy, wore him down. Jubilee Song also finished just too l strongly for the pacemaker, with Glenvane fourth and Legatee next. Legatee was well back on the turn, and finished strongly.
