ALBION IN THE LEAD UNIVERSITY AGAIN COLLAPSES ' BRIGHT BATTING BY DICKINSON By again dismissing University for a small score, Albion took the lead in the senior cricket competition on Saturday. The matches were played on fast wickets in bright sunshine. Kaikorai also secured an outright win against Dunedin, and Grange and the Colts won on the first innings. The outstanding batting performance was "that of Dickinson for High School Old Boys. He scored 86 in 57 minutes, hitting five 6’s and five 4’s. For the same team, which suffered defeat after losing only three wickets for 229, Giles scores 68 and Mills 51. For the Colts Payne made 51, and H. Cameron scored 50 for Carisbrook. Cook, who took five for 7 for Kaikorai on the previous Saturday, had an average of eight for 27 when Dun'edin’s first innings ended! In Dunedin’s second innings he completed a fine “double” by taking six for 36. The positions of the teams are as

ALBION v, UNIVERSITY Only an hour and 10 minutes was required to conclude the match between Albion and University at Logan * Park. On the first day Albion scored 161, and University, after being dismissed for 43 in its first innings, had lost two wickets 5 for 13 in the second. When the game was resumed on Saturday the score was carried to 27 before the third wicket fell. The fourth was taken at 33, and Uttley gave Allen an easy catch close in on the leg side at 41. Henderson and Byan were both dismissed before there had been any addition to the total, and the remaining batsmen did not last long, the innings closing for 65. Albion thus won by an innings and 53 runs. Scores ALBION.

COLTS v. CARISBROOK

With a lead of nine runs and seven wickets still in hand at the close of the first day’s play, Colts added another 98 to their overnight score to gain a fairly comfortable five-point win over Carisbrook. Knowles and Fraser, the not out men, opened carefully, but Knowles, after a few overs, became more aggressive, and gave a bright exhibition of forceful batting. Fraser knocked up a nice 10, and Payne joined Knowles. The rate of scoring increased, and the pair carried the tally to 191 before Knowles hit one off J. Cameron straight over the bowler's head, and M‘Mullan brought off a beautiful one-handed running catch. Pavne, in the meantime, was gqing along steadily, but the tail ' collapsed badly, and Colts’ innings closed for 243. Payne had batted very steadily, exploiting a "ood variety of strokes, and his score included seven fours. Carisbrook went in again after the tea adjournment, and when stumps were drawn had 189 on for the loss of four wickets. H. Cameron, with an attractively compiled 61, was the principal scorer, and Bell (41 not out) and Cavanagh (30) also hatted well. Following are the detailed scores:—- '

KAIKORAI v. DUNEDIN Kaikorai secured an eight-point win in their match against Dunedin at Tonga Park. In their innings on the previous Saturday Kaikorai scored a total of 202 runs. Dunedin’s _ first innings produced 72, and in their second strike they were dismissed for 93. Kaikorai thus won outright with 36 runs in hand A large measure of Kaikorai’s success was due to the excellent howling of Cook. His figures for DunedinV first innings were eight for 27 and in the second innings he took six wickets for 36 runs. The Dunedin batsmen were never comfortable when facing him, and on one occasion he took three wickets in one over. When play was resumed on Saturday Dunedin had lost seven wickets for 39 rims. Hudson and Callatn were associated in a partnership which added 18, Callam hitting two sixes during his brief innings. The innings closed at 2.40 p.m. with the total at 72. Dunedin followed oil and, as has been stated, Cook again played havoc among the batsmen. Giles and Douglas, with 10 each, were the highest scorers, closely followed by Hardman with 15. The match ended at 4.55 p.m., when Heather was bowled by Cook, leaving Hudson undefeated with 11. A feature of the innings was the fact that not a single extra was scored.

GRANGE v. HIGH SCHOOL OLD BOYS The match between Grange and High School Old Boys was concluded on the North Ground on Saturday afternoon and resulted in a five-point win for Grange. Old Boys batted the whole afternoon, but, notwithstanding that they scored 229 for , the loss of only three wickets, they were unable to equal Grange’s first-innings total of 342. After the fall of the third wicket there was a sudden collapse, and the remaining seven wickets fell for only 38 runs, Old Boys’ total being 265. Dickinson provided the brightest batting display of the afternoon, compiling a very useful 86 in 57 minutes. In the course of a pushing, forceful innings he hit five 4’s and five 6’s and was finally caught by Mercer off Knight, Giles, with 68 to his credit, gave Old Boys an excellent start, and Mills contributed well to the early strength of Old Boys’ position with 51, which he scored in good style. The only other batsman to make anything like a stand, however, was Clark, who was run out at 22 just when he looked like going on for a good score. Knight showed the best bowling figures for Grange, taking four wickets for 35 runs, and Elmes took the same number of wickets for 89 runs. The scores were as follows:
