SAGAR CUP CONTEST No fewer than nine teams competed in the St. Clair Life Saving Club’s annual four-man team contest for the Sagar Cup, which was held yesterday afternoon at St. Clair. Weather conditions were all that could be desired, but a stiff rip setting towards St. Kilda and a short, choppy sea hampered the competitors to a considerable extent and rendered the registering of fast times almost impossible. Nevertheless, the displays given by all the teajns were highly creditable, and in the circumstances the winning quartet, with P. E. Mathieson as beltman, put up a good performance. A large number of spectators, who lined the Esplanade, watched the competition with keen interest, and during an interval a Canoe Race provided not a little excitement. The resuscitation and beltman’s trophies were won respectively by C. Saxton and P. E. Mathieson. The following are the results: — No. 8 t6am (Mathieson, Bewley, Hay and Vickers), 67 points .. .. 1 No. 7 team (Gore, Tyrie, Devlin and J. Durand), 64 points .. .. *. • 2 No. 1 team (Gillies, Beadle, Saxton and A. Lewis), 60J points .. 3
