WEATHER IN NOVEMBER

RAINFALL ABOVE AVERAGE UNSEASONABLE CONDITIONS The outstanding features of the weather experienced in Dunedin during the month of November were the large number of wet days and the decrease in sunshine, compared with the conditions that prevailed during the corresponding month last year. At moat times the conditions were not in keeping with the second month of summer. During the first 11 days of the past month the average daily sunshine was about three and a-half hours, and the rainfall during that period was 1.35 inches. It was practically a continuous wet period from November 10 to November 14, while the sunniest period was from November 24 to November 30, a total of 48 hours 45 minues being registered. Another wet period was experienced from November 23 to November 26, when 1.06 inches of rain fell. The total rainfall for the month, as registered by the gauge on the roof of the Otago Daily Times building, was 3.14 inches, which was over two inches more than the rainfall for November last year, and .87 inches more than the fall for October this year. Last month’s rainfall was also the third heaviest registered for any month this year. Rain fell on 16 days in November, compared with 10 days in October, seven days in September, and 10 days in August. The average daily maximum temperature for November was 57 degrees which was about two degrees less than that for October. Fairly high temperatures were recorded at various periods, especially during the third week of the month. The average minimum temperature for the month was 45 degrees. BAROMETER READINGS. The barometer readings were below the 30.00 mark for the greater part of the month. For tiie first six days the read ings were between 20.97 and 29.40, but the pressure increased during the next two days, the rending on the night of November 8 being 29.80. The readings varied considerably between November 9 and 13, the barometer registering 29.90 on the latter date. There was only ;• variation of five points during the next three days, but the pressure decreased to a marked degree on November 17, the reading at midnight on that date being 29.39. This was the lowest reading for the month. The barometer rose rapidly during the next three days, registering 30.05 on the morning of November 20. A fairly steady and high barometer was recorded until the morning of November 22, when a sharp fall was noticeable, the reading at 8 a.m. being 30.01 and 29.88 at midnight. The barometer continued to fall until it registered 29.50 on the morning of November 24. The pressure then increased, the barometer soaring until it registered 30.02 at midnight on November 20. Again the pressure decreased until the barometer registered 29.91 at 8 a.m. and 29.05 at midnight on November 28. The barometer, however, rose on the last day of the month, the readings being 29.90 at 8 a.m. and 30.08 at midnight. SUNSHINE IN NOVEMBER. The total amount of sunshine for November, as registered on the sundial on the roof of the Otago Daily Times building, was 142 hours 7 minutes, compared with 166 hours 10 minutes in October, 207 hours 29 minutes in September, and 218 hours 45 minutes in November last year. The longest periods of daily sunshine were 13 hours 18 minutes on November 15, 11 hours 52 minutes on November 30, 11 hours 40 minutes on November 20, 10 hours 40, minutes on November 14, 10 hours 5 minutes on November 29, 8 hours 15 minutes on November 28, 7 hours 40 minutes on November 22, and 7 hours 10 minutes on Novmber 11. The shortest periods of sunshine were 12 minutes on November 10, 30 minutes on November 8, 34 minutes on November 9, 42 minutes on November 1, 1 hour 50 minutes on November 7, and 2 hours 40 minutes on November 23. On five days no sunshine was recorded.
