CONCILIATION COUNCIL
OTAGO TIMBER YARDS GENERAL AGREEMENT REACHED A general agreement was reached in the Conciliation Council on Saturday morning between the employers and the Otago Timber Yards and Sawmills Employees Union, The Battlement was in the terms of the old award, with the addition of Id per hour all round and an alteration making provision for the payment of time and a-half for holidays in place of tune and a-quarter. The award is to operate for one year, and will expire on October 31 1936. * The employers were the applicants, and their ' assessors were Messrs A. J. Allen, F. B. Carter, J. M. Kay, and A. S. Cooksou. For the union the assessors were Messrs C. A, Lucas, J. Bourke, F. C. Johns, and J. Robinson. The rates to be paid under the new agreement will be as follows: —First sawyer, Is IOJd per hour; other sawyers, Is 8d; tailers out, Is 8d; first machinist, Is lid; other machinists, Is 9Jd; head yardman, £4 3s per week; order man, Is 9d per hour; yard labourers, la 8d; wood turners, Is lid; spoke turners, Is 8d; sash and door hands, Is benders. Is lid; case makers, is Bd. Youths will receive the following rates; —First year, 15a per week; second, £1 2s 6d; third, £1 10s; fourth, £1 17s Gd; fifth, £2 ss. A clause relating to under-rate workers was the only matter referred to the court. ■
