Egypt is soon to have an official national anthem. The Egyptian Minister of Education has ordered the formation of a committee to prepare the rules of a competition for poets and musicians. They will submit words and • music appropriate, to the country’s national anthem, and a prize of £SO will be granted to the musician who sends in the best piece of music and to the poet whoso text is adjudged to be the most suitable. At the present time the “ Salam el Malek” is played on all official occasions. This ia the royal anthem.
