On July 10, 1922, the Department of Labour and Industries, Washington, United Stales, sent ont a ruling from which the following are extracts. These refer to the Law which provides that “every employer who employs less than 50 workmen shall keep at his plant . . . materials for First Aid to his injured workmen.” “For the past six months this Department has been receiving letters from a number “ of firms in this State to show that the product ‘ OIL OF SALT ’ is most efficacious “in the treatment of Burns, Bruises, Wounds, Lacerations, Contusions, being most “excellent for preventing infection and allaying pain where a workman is burned. “ Our experience hat shown us that many workmen will not use lodine when injured “because of its tendency to burn. Also, in many cases where lodine is used to "excess, first or second degree bums result from the excessive use. “Therefore, by the authority invested in ,me by Section 6640/36, as Supervisor “of Industrial Insurance, you are advised that 1 OIL OF SALT ’ is added to the «standard First Aid Kit required by Section 6604/35, and a bottle of ‘ OIL OF “ SALT' shall he placed in aU Kits. This ruling is effective as from August 1, 1922, "DEPARTMENT OF LABOUR AND INDUSTRIES.” Many employers of labour in New Zealand have been using “ Oil of Salt ” for some year* past, but there arc still a number who have not come into touch with this wonderful First Aid, and it would certainly be advantageous for them to adopt this preparation, the use of which, as indicated above, has heen made compulsory in the Slate of Washington. “OIL OF SALT" is sold for private and household use in bottles at 1/6 and 2/6.
