ASTRONOMICAL NOTES FOR DECEMBER, 1935

THE SUN. The sun’s path during the month of December will be through the constellations of Ophiuchus and Sagittarius, in R.A. 'from 16.24.21 to 18.36.30, in south declination from 21.37.43 to 23.10,57, and in longitude from 247.51.14 to 278.22.15 The solstice occurs on the 23rd, and an annular eclipse of the sun occurs on the 26th, which will be visible in New Zealand as a partial eclipse at sunrise. THE MOON. The phases of the moon will be as under:— First Quarter, 3rd .. .. 7.28 p.m. Full Moon, 10th 3.10 p.m. Last Quarter. 18th .. .. 9.57 a.m. New' Moon. 26th ... .. 5.49 a.m. Pengee, 6th 10. 6 a.m. Apogee, 18th 2.42 p.m. Pengee, 31st 3.24 a.m. THE PLANETS. Mercury will be in R.A. from 16.2.22 to 19.28.59. and in south declination from 20.51.8 to 24.3.53. It will be in conjunction with Jupiter on the 2nd, and it. superior conjunction with the sun on the 10th, and in conjunction with the moon on tlie 26th. Venus will be in R.A. from 13.23.13 to 15.30.8, and in south declination from 6.26.52 to 16.49.0. Marg wall be in R.A. from 19.49.44 to 21.25.32, and in south declination from 22.27.8 to 16.21.39. It will be in conjunction with the moon on the 29th. .Jupiter will be in R.A. from 16.12.9 to 16.39.57, and in south declination from 20.29.0 to 21.33.4. It will be in conjunction with the moon on the 24th. Saturn will be in R.A. from 22.26.9 to 22.33.12, and in south declination from 11.44.25 to 10.59.44. It will be in conjunction with the moon on the 3rd and on the 30th. Uranus, w ill be in conjunction with the moon on the 7th, and Neptune will be in conjunction with the moon on the 17th.
