The members of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Association held the third birthday social on November 23. The programme, consisting of community songs, toasts, impromptu speeches, and social items, was rendered under the guidance of the chairman (Mr R. Harrison). The president read a message from one of the members who wag a patient in the hospital. Mrs Brooke px’oposed the toast of the association, Tmd Mrs Hargreaves proposed the toast of the executive, to which Mrs Maden suitably /responded. A play reading was given by Mrs Maden, Mrs Anthony, and Mr Frye. Various other items were rendered by the following members: —Mr W. Longworth and Mr Crossley, a duet; Mrs R. Finch, Mrs H. Parish, Mr F. Swift, Mr Dixon, songs. Mrs Swift gave a short speech upon the psychology of numbers. The secretary (Mrs H. Parish) presented the birthday cake, and the candles were lit by Mrs S. Harris, Mrs Jackson, and Mrs C. Ridding. Mrs R. Harrison, the hostess, exft the cake, which was distributed amongst the members after supper. Community singing and dancing concluded an enjoyable evening. The final meeting of the Imperial Exservicemen’s Association (N.Z.) for this year was held at the R.S.A. Rooms on Monday, when a large number of members and friends were present. The chief item of the evening took the form of a one-act piay entitled “Not What They Seem.” This comedy was ably produced by Mrs O. C. Stephens, and the players wef-e;' —Mrs F. J. Gair, as Mrs Raeburn; Mr O. C. Stephens, as Henry, the butler; Mr A. C. Stephens, as Mr Raeburn; and Mr M. O’Sullivan, as Mr Bishop. This item was greatly enjoyed, and the association is indebted to these members of the Dunedin Little Theatre Society for their assistance. Other items which were much appreciated were contributed by Miss Darracott (songs), Mr George Currie (songs), and Mr Porteous (Swanee whistle). Mr Keareley officiated at the piano for dancing and accompaniments. The Kaikorai branch of the W.C.T.U. held its meeting on Tuesday. After the business, the election of officers xvas held, with the following results:—President, Mrs Flett; vice-presidents—Mrs Avery, Mrs Smith, and Mrs Adcock; secretary, Miss Dobson: treasurer, Mrs Masterton; backblocks agents, Mrs Ellis and Mrs McDonald; White Ribbon, Mrs Gracie; cradle roll, Mrs M'Kenzie; organist, Mrs M'Dona’d; devotional leader and press reporter.
