CHRISTMAS APPEAL

TO THE EDITOR

Sir, —Ouce again we are on the threshold of the Christmas mouth of goodwill, und are reminded of the words “ Peace on earth, goodwill to men,” and our sympathy goes out to the helpless and the needy, to little children, and care-worn mothers and fathers.

My desire is to make a happy Christmas in every home we are in touch with, to help children to have Christmas joys in their home. None of us is too old that we cannot recall the excitement and pleasure the magic Christmas plum pudding brought to the family, and how dreadfully long Christmas was in coming round. Not so now. The year is all too short, yet still the' Christmas pudding and Christmas tree have a thrill for us. Will happy parents who make and enjoy Christmas cheer in their own homes remember my less fortunate and helpless ones? It will give me real pleasure to dispense cheer in any and every shape and form, to save some back from breaking and some over-pressed mind from failing. Our lists ar e long and large, but Dunedin has a big benevolent heart, and as “ many hands make work light,” I ask its people by their help to increase my power to give blessings and cheer whereever we find the need. May every home, rich and poor, receive Christmas blessings in abundance, and may health and prosperity reward those who remember to send a portion for those for whom nothing is prepared.—l am, etc., Hannah L. Coombs,

Samaritan Officer Dowling street. Phone 13-207.
