CLYDE NAVIGATION TRUST
TRADE WITH DOMINIONS (From Our Own Correspondent) (By Air Mail) LONDON, November 9. At a meeting of the Clyde Navigation Trust in Glasgow the half-yearly report of the commercial manager (Mr Harold M. Ford) was discussed. The report states that the number of vessels received from Australia during the hair-year totalled 33 (an increase of five over the corresponding half-year of 1934), representing an increased in-and-out tonnage of 69,832. The cargoes for the six months amounted to 63,253 tons, against 67,307 tons in 1934—a decrease .of 4054 tons. The decreased import tonnage was represented in the falling off of grain and flour shipments. There were, however, increases in every other commodity imported from Australia, particularly refrigerated products, which necessitated the employment of six additional refrigerated vessels during the half-year, the number being 23 against 17 in 1934. There was no change over the haltyear in the number of vessels from 'New Zealand (total 18), but there was a decrease of some 2400 tons in cargo imports as compared with 1934. This dec.-ease followed the voluntary restrictions entered into between the New Zealand and British Governments in connection with meat exports to this country, and also to a falling off in the production of dairy produce. Mr Ford reported that export trade was generally satisfactory during the half-year to Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.
