ROSLYN RATEPAYERS

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Roslyn and Kaikorai Ratepayers' Association was held last night, Mr P. L. Ritchie presiding. . Correspondence was read from the town cleric with reference to widening Charlotte street and City road, stating that if the amount of ground to be given by the property owner in exchange for new fencing would be extended to 30 feet there would be a likelihood of acceptance. The rounding of Scarba street at the junction of City road was commented upon, and it was thought desirable'that this should be acquired by the City Council. The corner would then be removed from the danger list in the district. Reviewing the present work in progress in the district, the chairman stated that the widening of Taieri road just past Dean street was well advanced. Spoil had been removed ready for making and channelling the new footpath to Berwick street. A good start had been made with the new water pipe laying in Highgate near Roes street, preparatory to tarsealing this portion. It was decided to approach the City Council again with regard to the removal of the offensive half-burned building-in Kaikorai Valley road, belonging to the council, to make room for the commencement of this portion of street widening. It was pointed out that the new system lately introduced by the Postal Department did not meet with a cordial reception by residents. Complaints had been received that the late morning • delivery of correspondence had in many cases exceeded 11 o'clock. This was considered excessive and out of proportion to the oldestablished time of delivery. It was decided to approach the postmaster and ask that a remedy be granted to reduce the inconvenience to the public. It was decided to ask the City Council to erect steps at the junction of Maheno street and Lynwood avenue. It was pointed out that there was a right-of-way there which at present was out of commission, and if steps were erected an inconvenience would be eliminated.
