Mrs A. Stewart will leave to-day on a visit to her daughter, Miss Jennie Stewart, of Christcburch.

Mrs F. Stuckey returned to Dunedin on Tuesday after a visit to her sister, Mrs G. J. Yule, of Invercargill.

Miss Patsy Stephens, who was the guest of Mrs C. Bowker, of Timaru, has returned to Dunedin.

Mrs Howard Jackson has been notified that a copy of her book, "Annals of a New Zealand Family," has been placed in the library at Waitangi House.

Mrs C. A. Paterson* of Timaru, is on a visit to Mrs Riley, of Timaru Creek. She is accompanied by her daughter, Mrs R Dawson-Welsh, of Wellington.

Mrs J.M'Fadden, who has been visiting her sister, Mrs Tulloch, sen., and staying with Mrs George Tulloch Andersons Bay, left for Blenheim on Monday.

Miss Isabel Spencer, of the nursing staff of the Dunedin Hospital, went to. Invercargill on Sunday to etay with her parents, Mr afad Mrs L. W. Spencer Albert street, for the wedding of her brother and Miss Hoyles. She returned to Dunedin on Wednesday.

# * * At the interesting violin recital presented by Mr Rees M'Conachy in Begg s Concert Chamber on Wednesday evening, there were two visiting artists in Miss Betty Hilliard, a Christchurch contralto, and Miss Clarice Colbert, pianist. The former was in white and the latter in black, each being presented with bouquets in keeping with their gowns. The recital was a popular one, and gave great pleasure to ithe appreciative audience that heard it.! # * *

The marriage of Vida Margaret, youngest daughter of the late Mr and Mis A. L M'Kenzie, of Dunedin and Alfred Donald, only son of Mr and Mrs J...W. Strachan, of St. Albans, Christchurch, was celebrated recently by the Rev. J. ; *. Feron, at. St. Matthew's Church, St. Albans. Mr L. S. Pilgrim played the wedding music. The bride waa given away by Mr" J. A. Brosnan.' ;She wore a frock or jacquard satin, made with Iqng sleeves, ehirred to the elbows and fitted to long cuffs of lace, similar lace being inset in the bodice. Her veil. of. silk tulle was bordered with fine wide lace, and was held to the head with a chaplet of orange blossom. She carried a trailing bouquet ot •hothouse flowers. Miss Eileen Clements, who attended as bridesmaid, wore an ivory crepe de chine frock, patterned in sprigged design in pastel tomngs. bhirnne eave a softening effect at the neckline, and the long bishop sleeves w.ere caught into shirred bands at the wrists. A pretty wedding was solemnised, in Trinity Church on Thursday, evening, November 14, when Miss Ethel F. HotttaJwM married to Mr John M Adams, of St' Clair. The church had been decorated by friends of the bride, and the Rev L B. Neale officiated at the ceremony. The bride, who was escprted by he* brother, Mr J.Botting. wore a-trained cown of ivory satin with a high neckline falling into a cowl m front and having long sleeves ehirred at the top and trimmed with small buttons. Her long veil of tulle, which was handsomely embroidered with satin applique, formed a train and was caught to the head with a diadem of silver lame She carried an arm sheaf of arum lilies. The bridesmaid. Miss Jean Hocking, who preceded the bride into the church, looked charming in -a cold frock with a picture hat ot green ajpd green shoes, and carried a bouquet of gold and pink flowers. The little flower girl was daintily attirod in green georgette frilled to the waist, with gold shoes and a head bandeau of green and pink. The bridegroom was attended .by Mr J. Mahofeki as best man. Mrs R. Bain, of Blair street, Mornington, gave an enjoyable afternoon tea party, in honour of her sister, Miss Eva White, who is leaving Dunedin to take a position in Rotorua. During the afternoon Mrs Dadson, in a charming little speech, expressed regret that Miss White was leaving them, and wished her good fortune in her future work. On behalf of herself and her friends, she presented Miss White with a pretty crystal jewel case as a token of affection. Miss White suitably responded. There were present Mesdames H. The Provincial Committee of the League of Mothers held its final quarterly meeting ibr the year yesterday morning in the assembly hall, Y.M.C.A. Mrs John Reid was in the chair, and there was an excellent attendance of branch presidents and secretaries and delegates from the Mothers' Union. After the usual business was disposed of the report of the Dominion Conference held in Wellington was given by Mrs John Reid and Mrs T. M'Gregor. This was received with great enthusiasm, and the discussion on various Eoints was interesting and keen. The league of Mothers is steadily growing, and filling a big need amongst mothers throughout the Dominion. The branches now number 87 and the Dominion membership 6830.

There was a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Musical Circle of the North .Otago Women 8 Club, when Mr G. E. Wilkinson spoke on "The Life and Works of/Gounod." Those present fully appreciated this interesting and informative lecture. Mr' Wilkinson was assisted by a choir of 12 voices to illustrate the talk with songs, choruses, and instrumental selections from the works of this composer. Miss Hood, th-2 chairwoman of the circle, extended a welcome to the visitors, and, after the excellent programme, Miss Kallmann proposed a vote of thanks to Mr Wilkinson and his party. The Australian Society at the Vedic Cafe on Saturday night was the centre of a brief but interesting lantern lecture on the features and scenery of Queensland, by Mr T. H. Thompson, who was introduced by the president, Mr A. A. Paape. Mr Thompson ably commanded the attention of his audience and stated many facts about the history and climate of various places depicted on each of the 48 coloured slides. Brisbane being the capital of the most naturally prolific and also scenically beautiful State, is one of the wealthiest cities in Australia. A fastgrowing city, its population to-day numbers 305,000 people, and in the future will probably be the termination of the big air lines from the north. In conclusion. Mr Paape thanked Mr Thompson lor his interesting lecture, and Mr W. F. E. Sihipson, who operated the lantern. He welcomed the president of the Auckland Club. Mr Osborne, and Mrs Osborne, and expressed the hope that he would see the club again represented in socials of the future. Mr Osborne suitably replied. Later Mr Patou, who is returning to Queensland in January, gave an interesting and detailed description of various tropical beauty spots of his personal knowledge, and Mr Palmer Wyatt related many incidences in his fifteen years' experience of the Great Barrier Reef. Sutton, Earnslaw street, for the Spencer-Hoyles wedding. She returned to the country on Tuesday, and expects to return to Dunedin on Monday.
