MR K. S. WILLIAMS I I'm: ' niiki* !';;i-s- \-s-ti \n»tv WHAKATANE, November 25. While attending a garden party in his honour at the residence of Mr C. Gordon, of Opotiki, this afternoon, Mr K. S. Willii.ms, retiring member for the Bay of Plenty, collapsed and died. The occasion was being taken by constituents from all parts of the electorate to present Mr Williams with an illuminated address as a mark of appreciation of his services. Several speeches had been made when Mr W'illiams collapsed. He was carried indoors, but expired before medical aid was available. Mr Williams had been ir bad health for some time and was retiring from active politics.

Mr Williams was born in the Bay of Islands in. 1870, being the son of Mr J. W. Williams, who was a member of the House of Representatives from 1873 to 1879. He was educated at the Heretaunga School, Hastings, and at Christ's College, and afterwards took up sheep farming at Matahiia. He took a keen interest in local body activities and was a member of the Tokomaru Harbour Board, the Waiapu Hospital Board, and chairman of the Waiapu County Council until his election to Parliament as member for the Bay of Plenty in 1920. Ho was re-elected unopposed in 1925, and in the 1928 election beat the Labour candidate, Mr A. F. Moncur, by 4465 votes to 2590. He was again re-elected unopposed in 1931, but on account of illhealth did not seek re-election in tho present campaign. During his parliamentary career Mr Williams held the portfolio of Minister of Public Works from 1926 to 1928. He took an active interest in the sport of horse racing, and owned some successful horses. He is survived by his wife, two sons and one daughter. MR R. F. WHITE The sudden death of Mr Robert Frederick White, aged 44 years, ol the Goldfields Hotel, Roxburgh, which occurred on Saturday evening, came as a shock t" his many friends. During the afternoon he complained that he was not feeling well and medical assistance was called in', but he passed away about H p.m. Mr White was well known to the travelling public. (Received Nov. £5, at 11 p.m.) The death has occurred of Mr Frank Wilkinson, the veteran sporting journalist, whose pen-name Martindale was known throughout the Commonwealth. He wrote the history of the Australian turf for the Australian Jockey Club. The death occurred at Toowoomba. He was 70 years of age. SENATOR CHARLES MURPHY OTTAWA, November 24.
