(Received Nov. 25, a$ 5.5 p.m.) Describing the progress of extracting oil from coal at the hydrogenation plant < . the north-east coast before the Ins'tute of Electrical Engineers, Mr Kenneth Gordon, who is'in charge of the plant, said that in six years the coal treated had increased from 10 tons to 4000 tons a day. The total consumption of coal at the new works for all purposes was betw in 1,250,000 and 1,500,000 tons annum. For petrol production alone '500,000 tons of coal were' being consumed. The first boatload of finished petrol left on April 9 of this year, and shipments had been made regularly since. He had no doubt that the Dillingham plant finally would have an output considerably in excess of the present* figures.
