CONDUCIVE TO CANCER
STRONG LIGHT ON SKIN EVOLUTION OF A SUBSTANCE (United Press Association) * (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON", November 24. (Received Nov. 25, at 9 p.m.) The presence in the skin of a substance which, under the influence of light, can undergo evolution into a cancerproducing compound may cause the phenomenon of prevalence of cancer in parts of the world where unclothed skin is excessively exposed to strong light, says the annual report of the Empire iCanccr Campaign. It is known, that the skin contains a substance which may be identical with ergosterol. There is little doubt that some such conversion by light as mentioned must occur in the human disease known as ccroderma pigmentosum.
