TOURIST TRAFFIC
«©, LABOUR'S POLICY MR M. J. SAVAGE'S MANIFESTO (Per United Pisess Association) WELLINGTON, November 25. Labour's tourist policy was outlined by Mr M. J. Savage in a special manifesto stating that the Labour Government will put into effect a progressive and businesslike policy of tourist expansion, and will earnestly foster enjoyment by New Zealanders of the wonderful gifts of Nature. The health spas at Rotorua, Te Aroha, Hanmer Springs, etc., will be enlarged and improved, and facilities made available for all requiring treatment. Labour will restore and preserve the people's right of access to rivers and lakes, with, of course, reasonable safeguards for the farmers' rights. Scenic reserves will be made from large tracts of standing forest, especially near tourist' roads or where denudation is likely to cause flooding. Tourist roads will be maintained and an endeavour made to attract tourists from Australia, the East, the United States, Canada, and Britain. The scope of the Tourist Publicity Department will be enlarged sufficiently and staffed actively to seek new business.
