THE KENNEL

By Bkeedeu.

" Breeder" will be pleased if dogowners and others concerned will forward him notes of interest for his consideration with a view to their insertion in this column.

Messrs Curie and Booth inform me that they have decided to concentrate their future breeding activities to the " Yootha" stock, and in consequence have quitted the following dogs:—A brown and white bitch to Mr H. H. Pemberton, of Dunedin; a bitch puppy by Milo Meriden ex Gay Idea to Mr Manson, of Waipori, and a litter puppy dog to Mr J. M'Gregor, of Dunedin. This leaves (hese kennels, with the exception of Gay Idea, purely line bred "Yootha - ' stock with the well-known dogs, ch Seleeta Ideal, ch Little Aristocrat, and ch Gay Lally—only three or four generations back.

A Dunedin visitor to the Canterbury Kennel Club's show was invited by Mr F. W. Pollard, of Christchurcli, to have a look over his kennels and see his imported wire-haired fox terrier bitch ch Storm Sagacity. He informs me that he found this bitch one of the finest wires one could wish to see. Unfortunately she has not yet been benched in New Zealand. She has, however, been a big winner in the Old Country- In the kennels is also a young son of this bitch by ch Thet Thrusty (imp.) that looks like making up into a dog worthy of hi.-i breeding. It is Mr Pollard's intention to send Sagacity to Mrs Wall's kennels to have her mated to the good winner Stocksmoor Smartset (imp.). This pair, being made on the same lines, should produce some exceptionally good stock.

Mr W. Henderson, of Dunedin, who judged at the recent Wanganui Kennel Club's show, held in conjunction with the

A. and P. Society's show, has kindly supplied me with his report on the show. He writes: " The judging ring was on the lawn of the Wanganui racecourse, and my ring steward was Mr E. Williams, an old cocker spaniel breeder, whose title, 'Gambler,' was very well known to the cocker fancy in days gone by. He kept the ring going and 1 finished my awards by 4 o'clock. The president of the club, Mr N. Inard, has a very energetic committee, and I fjel sure that under its capable management this club will continue to be one of the most popular in the north. The club is unfortunate in losing the services of its aetiVe secretary, Mr A. Humane, who is leaving for Melbourne early in December. On the first night of the show the club held a very successful social, when an opportunity was taken of making a presentation to Mr and Mrs Murnane, and judging by the remarks made by several of the speakers, Mr Murnane's place in the dog world of Wanganui is going to be hard to fill. During the evening I was asked to make a few remarks on the quality of the dogs I had judged and to answer several questions of interest to the fancy. This being my second trip to Wanganui in the capacity of judge, I was pleased to renew acquaintance witli fanciers whom I had met on my former visit and I returned home witli many happy recollections of my short stay in Wanganui. Taken all round, the quality of the dogs shown was well up to the average, and my best classes were cocker spaniels, terriers and collies. Mr Izard's imported Airedale dog I made best in show. He is an outstanding dog, beautifully balanced, with no exaggerations. He also won the Sinclair Memorial Stakes, with Mr A. Eraser's smooth fox terrier Brownlow Brutus second and Mr S. H. Rastall's bulldog Suncrest Peacemaker, third. The Jubilee Puppy Stakes, winch was the feature event of the show, was a great class, and was won by Mr P. W. Wilson, of Lower Hutt, witli his smooth fox terrier puppy Riversdalc Roberta. Roberta won puppy, novice and open in her breed classes, was awarded best terrier any variety, and in addition to the Jubilee Stakes won the Puppy Stakes and Novice Stakes. Mrs Bull's rough coated collie Gloaming Glow was second, and Mr D. Robson's cocker, Doreen of Essex, third."

Members of the executive of the New Zealand Kennel Club met at the home of Mr W. M. Jack, Christchurch, to tender to Mr W. C. Leversedgc, who is retiring from executive work, their sincere regret that lie would no longer be associated with the governing body. Mr Norman Wade, president of the Kennel Club, on behalf of the executive, handed to Mr Levcrsedge a handsome set of pipes and smoker's outfit. In making the presentation, Mr Wade spoke of Mr Leversedgc as the " grand old man " of the fancy, as a good judge and capable administrator.

A writer in a Melbourne paper says: " In the importation of Gunsicle Boris Sealyham terrier enthusiasts will certainly owe a debt of gratitude to that sterling fancier, Mr A. A. White. This typical little terrier is teeming with Redlands, Brash, and Seapatrick blood, and should prove of inestimable value to the already excellent Strathclyde stud of these useful terriers. Boris is by Gunside Blue Blood ex Gunsicle Bundle. Gun side Blue Blood was sired by the international champion, Redlands Royalist, his dam being Redlands Raffia. The si> - e of Gunsicle Bundle is Rawnsley Renowu, her dam being Seapatrick Dalliance. Gunside Boris is a strong-headed, good coated, muscular little dog, full of true terrier character." Dr A. Smith Morton, of the Cumbrae Kennels, Oamaru, has disposed of the Scottish Terrier, Cumbrae Acquisition, to Miss C. D. A. Blackburn, of Gisbovne.

This bitch is by Ch. Rouken Emigrant (imp.) ex Cunibrae Ailsa. Prom the Westmere Kennels of West Highland White Terriers, owned by Mrs J. 11. Voice (Upper Riccarton), it is reported that two dog puppies have left the kennels for distant new homes, one having gone to Mr H. H. Johnstone (Auckland), and the other to Mrs P. Hall (Marlborough). These youngsters are from Cotswold Highland Buna by Harrington Bob, the property of Mr G. S M'Kay. Mrs Voice is quite satisfied with the progeny of these two, for they have quite recently been mated again. Mr J. Pasco, of Invercargill, has decided to breed cockers. Pie has mated his blue roan bitch to Ivorheath Skipper. The latter, as well as being of firstclass breeding, is a splendid worker in the field, being one of the untiring sort. He is bred from a well-tried working stain noted in England for their doings in the held. The prospective pups should be a first-class lot. Mr L. R. P. Uiggott, owner of thy Deleeta Kennels of smooth fox terriers, at Linwood, reports that his bitch Deleeta Delight is rearing a very nice litter of three dogs and one bitch, the sire being Berkley Brigand, who is also owned by Mr Higgott. Deleeta Delight is by Some Aristocrat (imp.) from the Australian-bred Dunara Debutante. Brigand, the sire of the puppies, was. by the way, the best smooth fox terrier of either sex at the last Christchurcli show. Deleeta Dot, by ch Birehley Blizzard, has just whelped a most promising litter of five dogs, the sire being Deleeta Dictator, who is reported to have done well on the show bench. Mr W. W. Pollard, of Christchurcli, has recently mated his young Irish terrier bitch Grantley Bass to Mr Vernazoni's well-known ch Richley Raider. Lass is by Sir Robert from Brendon Norali, and something good should come from this mating. | Miss Marjorie Martin, of Upper RicI carton, a pioneer of the cairn terrier, has ! disposed of a six months' old dog puppy

to Mrs J. L. Macfarlane, of Lyndon Station, Waiau. This youngster is a particularly fine specimen, a rich wheaten red, and is by Miss Martin's imported Poxy of Mercia, the dam being Susan of Seeone. Miss Martin has two beautiful dog puppies by Sam of Eaton (imp.), bj Smiling Eyes of Seeone. One of the youngsters is an attractive silver grey, and his owner predicts a promising career on the show bench. Miss Martin's new kennels at Avonhead road are now nearly completed, and she is very busy witli both boarders and patients. Included in the recent list of championship certificates issued by the executive of the New Zealand Kennel Club are the following southern dogs:— Leidstono of Leitlival (Alsatian), breeder Mr 11. Austen, owner Mr C. R. Hebbard, Dunedin. Don Cicsar of Ivanhoe (Labrador Retriever), breeder Mr A. A. Boon, owner Mrs M. B. Reid, Ranfurly. Rouken Emigrant (imp.; Scottish terrier), breeder Mrs Buchanan, owner Dr A. Smith Morton, Oamaru. Byarln of Addlestone, imp. (Borzoi), breeder Mrs A. A. Vlasto, owner Messrs Austen Bros., Dunedin. Judith (cocker spaniel), breeder Mr L. Smyth, owner Mr L. Barton, Dunedin. Mangawhare Baby (Sydney Silkie terrier), breeder Mrs L. Barton, owner Mrs L. Barton Dunedin. Backswoods Flower, imp. (R.C. collie), breeder S. Robinson, owner Mrs S. W. Jory, Dunedin.
