WANTON DESTRUCTION

TREES PULLED FROM STREET COMPLAINT TO GREEN ISLAND COUNCIL "It seems that the council will have to make an example, of someone," said Cr G. Orange at the monthly meeting of the Green Island Borough Council last night in making a complaint about the destruction of the trees which, had been planted in Dall street to beautify the place.. These, he said, were disappearing fast, many of them having been pulled out. The council had been too lenient with the lads of that part of the borough when it had been discovered that the wire netting around the trees was being removed, and now the trees themselves were going. " Something should be done about it," he continued. " Not only have some trees been deliberately removed, but others have been broken down. They were , planted at the expense of the borough. Nothing is being done to stop the destruction that is going on." The Mayor (Mr T. M'Ahan) said that the lads concerned might be " pretty old ones." Certainly many of the trees had been pulled out. Cr. J. A. R. Brown moved that the .police vhould be asked, to deal with-the matter. ;. Cr W. Dickinson seconded the motion. He said that the local constable could not be there all the time, and he thought that they should give publicity to. the matter. - ; .' /^ The motion was carried..- • ;;
