BALCLUTHA : Caledonian Society There was a large attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Port Molyneux Caledonian Society. Mr D.H. Tilson was in the chair. The annual report and balance sheet showed a satisfactory state of affairs. For the 1935 meeting entries were less than usual, but there was a marked advance in the quality of the competition. In the absence of the chairman (Mr W. Roy), Mr D. Marshall presided at the monthly meeting of the South Otago High School Board on Monday night. It was decided suitably to acknowledge the gift by Mr J. Shacklock of an electric range for ths cookery room and to ask the Education Department to provide two other ranges and equipment. It was decided to hold Parents' Day on November 21, when the opening ceremony of the two new classrooms recently com* pleted would be performed. The question of choosing a suitable design for the dux medal was delegated to Mesdames White and Dallas. : •'

Personal Mr Hinton, the Public Works official who has been in charge of the timber from the old traffic bridge during the work of demolition, has been transferred to the Taieri aerodrome, where the department has work in hand. PALMERSTON School Committee The monthly meeting of the local District High School Committee was held on Monday evening, Mr J. A. Arnold, the present rector, who had been transferred to Arthur Street School, Dunedin.—The secretary was instructed to endorse the board's appointment. The Visiting Committee for October reported that the grounds and gardens were in good oider, except-for the long grass in the play ground.—lt was decided to have the grass cut when the local Domain Board cuts the grass in the recreation ground. Messrs Denniston and Smith were appointed a Visiting Committee for November. Valedictory The women members of the local Bowling Club met last week to say farewell to Mrs Ingram, who is shortly leaving the district to reside in Oamaru. Several members paid tribute to the enthusiasm of Mrs Ingram during a period of some years, and she was presented with a bouquet of flowers. Mr Ingram was also the guest at an evening, a largecrowd being present. Several of those present spoke with regret at losing himv from palmerston as inspector of stock, and he" was presented with an ebonymounted walking stick. OMAKAU Miniature Rifle Club The Omakau Miniature Rifle Club met the Lauder Club in a friendly match at Omakau on Monday. After the shooting ar. enjoyable social hour was spent.
