In these clays of anti-noise leagues it is wise to teach your dog not to bark unnecessarily. At some greyhound kennels not far from London, where there is accommodation for hundreds of dogs, each kennel is fitted with an instrument which acts both as a microphone and as a loud speaker. If a dog, in his exuberance or otherwise, barks or howls, he unknowingly starts a relay which lights up a lamp in a control room, and he promptly hears, “Now. then, Hector (or whatever his name is), quiet, my boy, quiet,” or 'words to suit the occasion-
