DEFENCE RIFLE SHOOTING

KAITANGATA CLUB. The Kaitangata Defence Rifle Club fired the final stage of the first competition on Saturday, 13 members taking part. The afternoon was fine, with a slight breeze from the front, and some fair scores were put on. The ladies will hold a shoot next Saturday, The following are last Saturday’s scores: —

DUNEDIN CLUB. The Dunedin Defence Rifle Club shot the second competition for the trophy presented by Mr A. J. Shaw on Saturday afternoon. There was an attendance of 13, and 10 shots (two optional sighters) each were fired at 300 and 500 yards. Weather conditions were fine, but a frontal fishtail wind and variable light made high scoring difficult, especially at 500 yards. The best score at 300 yards was 48, made by Rfm. C. A. M'Nish. At 500 yards the highest score was 44, made by Rfm. J. L. Benfell and V. Fenby, the former taking pride of place on the count back. Rfm. V. Fenby headed the days’ aggregate with 90. The following are the highest scores:—

WEST TAIERI CLUB. The second shoot of the No. 1 competition was fired by the West Taieri Defence Rifle Club on Saturday. The weather was fine and there was a slight breeze from the i right. The president (Mr A. E. Blair) and Rifleman H. Fraser tied for highest place at the shorter range with 45 each. At 500 yards, Rifleman H. Fraser was first with 49, his score reading 5,5, 5, 5. 5. 4, 5. 5,5, 5. He has again held both aggregate and handicap badges for the week. The final of this competition will be fired over the same ranges next Saturday. The following were the scores;—
