ORKNEY AND SHETLAND SOCIETY

HALLOWE’EN SOCIAL The monthly social of the Orkney and Shetland Society was held in the Unity Chambers, Stuart street, on Saturday evening. It was very largely attended, and was presided over by the president (Mr W. Sabiston), who extended a hearty welcome to all members and friends, many of whom had come expressly to celebrate the Hallowe'en. He also thanked those who contributed to the programme and had assisted in any way to make the social a success. The attraction of the evening was the haggis, which was piped in by Piper A. M'Millan, followed by Mr A. Leishman, who recited Burns’s address to the haggie. Then followed the Scottish plum pudding. The musical items were as follows: Songs—Messrs Simpson. G. Kerr, Clark, Misses Hazel Walker. Phyllis Clare and Isabel Dakers; Highland dancing—Miss Shirley Cameron and Miss Daphne Allan’s red party, Misses Margaret Harris, Lorraine Ross, Lorraine M'Phersou and Audrey Ramsay; bagpipes, Misses Jean and Slay Taylor; Swanee whistle, Mr Porteous. The accompaniments were played by Miss Allan and Piper A. M'Millnn. Tile dance music was supplied by Miss Allan’s orchestra, and Mr J. Spence acted as M.C.
