OTAGO GIRLS' HIGH SCHOOL

TABLOID SPORTS MEETING The annual eports of the Otago Girls' High School were held under very pleasant conditions yesterday afternoon. There was a good attendance of spectators, who witnessed a comprehensive programme of events run off simultaneously. The sports were conducted on a tabloid system, so that every girl competed in each of the 10 events. This meant that about 450 competitors took part in the sports, and all the girls seemed to enter into the spirit of the occasion with great enthusiasm. By means of the tabloid system individual competition is eliminated, and an excellent team spirit is encouraged. The programme of events comprised 100 Yards, High Jump, Long Jump, Three-legged Race, Obstacle Race, Crocodile Race, Hitting the Hockey Ball Event, Block on Head Race, Overhead Ball Race, Flower Pot Novelty Race, and a Relay Race. Each form competed in every event, and championship points were awarded on percentages and times gained in the different sections. The school was divided into senior and junior sections, and close competition was witnessed in both divisions. The senior competition was won by Form VI with 651 points, the runner-up being Form Vbc. The junior division was won by Form IVs, with 100 points, and Form IVc was second, with 94 points.
