MALNUTRITION AMONG CHILDREN

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, —Dr M'Millan may be right in saying there are 10,000 under-nourished children in New Zealand, but I think he would also find that a number of them belonged to parents who though able to provide good wholesome food allow their children to have so many sweets that they have no appetite for plain food. I know people not very well off who give their children money with which to buy lollies, yet say they cannot afford to buy more than a pint of milk a day. I think if more milk, fruit, and vegetables were bought in place of sweets we should not hear so much about under-nourished children, and there would also be less work for the dentists. —I am, etc., Mother of Eight.
