Visions of the days when England was a part of the mainland of Europe and the soutb-east district was one huge forest are conjured up by the discovery of a submerged forest at Pevensey Bay, Workmen digging trenches for drains at a level of 17ft have discovered fossilised tree trunks and leaves. The area where the discovery was made is now beachland, and at the famous date 10GC was covered by the sea.
