Friday, November 1. (Before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M.) CHARGE OP ASSAULT. James Love Bain was charged with assaulting Margaret Eva Buchanan and John Peter Buchanan.—Chief Detective Young, who" asked for a remand until November 8, said it was alleged that the accused went to the house of the complainants, who were -man and wife, and after a fair amount of drinking had taken place, assaulted both Buchanan and his wife.—The remand was granted, bail being allowed in the accused's own recognisance of £25. A condition was made that in the meantime the accused should report daily to the police, and should keep away from the complainants. ATTEMPTED SUICIDE CHAKGE. A man, whose name was ordered to be suppressed, appeared on remand on a charge of attempting suicide. —He was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within 12 months, a condition being that he should

enter the Montecillo Home and remain there until fit to leave. CASE ADJOURNED. Alfred Edward Arundale was charged with being intoxicated while in charge of a motor car.—On the application of the defendant's counsel, Mr 0. G. Stevens, the case was adjourned until November 7. MOTORING OFFENCES. For failing to give way to traffic on the right, William Whitworth Robinson was fined 40s and costs. For leaving a motor car unattended for more than 15 minutes Eric W. Blomfield was fined 3s and costs. For similar breaches George P. Dyer, liabert H. Simpson, John F. Solomon, and William J. Walker were each fined 5s and costs. Charged with driving a motor lorry w'tliout a license, Herbert Hetherington Picton was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called on within 12 months. William Ronald Augustus Mercer, who was charged with passing another vehicle without having an adequate view of the road, was fined 20s and costs. James Winning was convicted and discharged on a charge of driving a motor truck without a licence.

For passing a stationary tram, I Thomas E. Vivian was fined 203 and costs.

For cutting a corner, Mary Miles was fined 30s and costs. Jack Nesbit, charged with being an unlicensed motor cyclist, was fined 5s and costs. For failing to stop at the signal of a constable, Norman Yep was fined 20s and costs. Charged with driving a motor car at a speed dangerous to the public, Nelson Mons Hedges was fined 30s and costs. Similarly charged, Frank Hood was fined 20s and costs. A fine of 10s and costs was imposed on A. Taylor and Sons, Ltd., for using a trade motor vehicle equipped with inefficient brakes. UNLIGHTED MOTOR CARS. Frank Albert Wheeler, who appeared voluntarily, was ordered to pay court costs (3s)'for driving an unlighted motor car. On similar charges, Kenneth M'lndoe Mackay, William Sydney Hurst Adams, Reese M'Conachy, Joseph Shaw Thompson, James Moore Wilson, John G. Dick and George Ireland were each fined os and costs. CYCLISTS IN TROUBLE. Gray Russell and Samuel Inglis Wolfenden were charged with riding bicycles

on the wrong side of the street. The former was fined 5s and costs, and the latter, who was injured as the result of his negligence, was convicted and discharged. CHIMNEY ON FIRE. For allowing the chimney of his house to catch fire, Alexander Cranefield was fined 5s and costs. UNREGISTERED DOGS. Albert E. Williams, Leonard Robertson, James Rae Kydd and Gordon Donaldson were convicted and discharged on charges of keeping unregistered dogs.
