Mr Louis E. Snelgrove, of Weston-super-Mare (England), is trying to evolve a race of tame honey bees. In the Clifton Zoological Gardens, Bristol, he has established a hive of half tame bees descended from a tame queen bee, which sting only under greatest provocation. He expects the next generation of bees to be as docile as kittens. They will still have their sting, but they will never use it. Mr Snelgrove's bee-taming methods are simple. He says it is all done by kindness. Two reasons why Kaitangata Coal is the favourite are its great heat and its lasting qualities.—Advt.
