"THE WHITE CHATEAU"
The one great "no more war" story based no real life drama and as romantic as it is thrilling, with a powerful human story, "The White Chateau," from the masterly pen of Captain Reginald Berkeley, of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade, will be produced next Tuesday at His Majesty's Theatre. It is a big 6tory — as yet untold in this country—of the heroisms, the romances, the passions of men and of women, by a man who dared to tell the whole story. The play unfolds ■ in dramatisation the wholesale applications of humanity, as well as the psychological transition from peace to war and from war to peace. It is a finely-drawn story of the cruelty and futility of war and the wonder and beauty of true romance. In a phrase, "The White Chateau" represents what the great army of drama lovers desire. In bringing this " no more war " masterpiece to the stage, the Little Theatre Society has recruited the largest and most suited cast on record as far as the amateur dramatic stage in New Zealand is concerned. The words of Diane in the final scene —scene six—give an indication of the "no more war" side of the play. She says: "I believe in the God in man, in love, in the beauty of life, in the conquering struggle with evil, in the destiny of mankind. I believe there is a purpose in creation, a mighty scheme in the universe." "The White Chateau" is being produced by Miss Madge Yates in a purely honorary capacity. Mr Russell Clarke, the wellknown artist,- is giving his time and skill to the scenery, which, incidentally, will demonstrate «still another direction in which local talent has been until now allowed to " blush unseen." Mr Ernest Griffin is the stage manager. The box plans are now open at Begg's, and the public are reminded that the play will be produced for one night only, November 5.
