MANAWATU FLOODS
w£ter now receding small loss of stock (Per United Press Association) PALMERSTON N., October 31. Duo to the accumulation of flood water unable to find release through its natural outlets, the situation at Rangiotu, with the Oroua River running at u dangerous level, assumed a serious aspect last night. The Manawatu River, which has its confluence with the Oroua near this point, began to fall, however, with the result that the discharge of water from the Oroua was facilitated. A section of the main road became temporarily impassable during the night, but the water is now receding fast and traffic is almost normal. A small loss of stock occurred in the Taonui basin, 15 pigs and 20 sheep being caught and drowned when a culvert burst. . , Xo further slips came down in the Manawatu Gorge, which is open for traffic The Whirokino road south of Foxton is still impassable, and likely tr. be so for several days.
