"LEARN TO SWIM" WEEK

OPENING OF CAMPAIGN OTAGO CENTRE'S EFFORT The Otngo Swimming Centre's annual " Learn-to-swim" campaign, which has, since its inception, proved such a popular feature of the centre's activities, will be opened at the Municipal Baths on Monday next and will be continued through the week until the following Saturday. Arrangements for the instructional programme have now been completed, and each afternoon and evening those desirous of learning to swim will have the opportunity of free tuition by competent instructors who have had considerable experience with the local clubs. The campaign will be under the supervision of Mr P. A. Mathieson, custodian of the Municipal Baths, who is the possessor of some of the highest wards open to swimmers; and to ensure that every learner shall get the maximum amount of attention and to prevent overcrowding the pool will be roped off into sections, each under the charge of one or more instructors. With the co-operation of all taking part, the effort should be an outstanding success, and the number of swimmers in Dunedin materially inc'-ased. Regular attendance at the sessions, during the week is desirable, and tin support and co-operation of all firms and factories, employees, school teachers, and pupils is sought. Special provision will be made for business employees during the lunch hour session from 12 to 2, and ladies will also be specially cstered for at a session during the afternoon. The following schedule of sessions has been arranged:— Mpndfly, November 4.—12-2 p.i\, tuition by instructors appointed from clubs and ceutrc: afternoon, tuition by baths' staff and centre instructors; 0.4*5 p.m..' official opening of "Learn to Swim" Week; 7-5.30 p.m., tuition by club and centre instructors; 8.30 p.m., interval—demonstration of swimming strokes to be arranged. Tuesday, November 5.—12-2 p.m., tuition by club and centre instructors/afternoon, tuition by baths' staff and instructors; 7-8.30 p.m., tuition by club and centre instructors; 8.30 p.m., interval —exhibition of diving by Otago champions. Wednesday, November 6. —12-2 p.m., tuition by club and centre officials; afternoon, tuition by baths' staff and instructors; 7-8 p.m., tuition by club and centre instructors; 8.30 p.m., intervalexhibition of fancy swimming by tyr P. A. Mathieson and assistants. Thursday, November 7.—12-2 p.m., tuition by club and centre instructors; afternoon, tuition by baths' staff and instructors; 7-8.30 p.m., tuition by club and centre instructors; 8.30 p.m., exhibition of strokes.
