DEATH AFTER WINNING RACE
How a swimmer died after winning a race was told at a London inquest on Harry Edmund James Blake, aged 28. of Fulham, John Philo, of Wembley, told the coroner that after winning a race at Fulham baths,_ Blake stood and gave his name to the judge. "He smiled at me and turned round to make his way to the steps," Philo added. "He appeared to dive under the water to the steps." Blake was taken from the water unconscious, and artificial respiration failed to restore life. Sir Bernard Spilsbury said death was due to shock on the second immersion. The verdict was "Accidental death."
