BRIGADE'S BUSY NIGHT . FOUR CALLS IN SIX HOURS (Per United Press Association) PALMERSTON N., October 28. The Fire Brigade had a busy night, answering no fewer than four alarms within six hours. About 10 o'clock a false call was received, and taxis were also summoned to call upon an astonished householder. The hoax was a nieau and serious one. A second call was received by the brigade shortly after midnight to a minor outbreak in a large residence in College street, this being quickly suppressed. At 3.30 the brigade was summoned by telephone to a large wooden dwelling occupied by Mr F. W. Franke, builder, Albert street. The fire had a fierce hold, and the house was gutted and all its contents destroyed. Mr Franke and his family were absent spending a week-end at the beach. The insurances are not available. While the brigade was attending this fire another alarm was given by someone unaware that the brigade was already on the scene, with the result that another engine whs brought out. ,'-.■<■ A CHARGE OF ARSON (Per United Press Association) PALMERSTON N., October 28. Edward Bloomfield M'Gill appeared before justices charged that on October 28 he committed arson by wilfully setting fire to a house at 128 College street. He was remanded till November 4, bail being fixed self in £250 and two sureties of a like amount.
