A “TRIGGER-MAN’S” END

DEATH IN CHEAP LODGINGS GLIMPSE OF GANG METHODS (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) NEW YORK, October 26. (Received Oct. 27, at 8 p.m.) Albert Stein, alias Stern, an undersized youth, aged 22, a confirmed narcotic addict for whom the police have been hunting for a year on several murder charges, was found dead at a cheap lodging house in Newark to-day. He had been strangled with a necktie. Apparently it was a case of suicide. Around his death the police have built a theory about the recent Amberg and Schultz killings, and perhaps a dozen more gang assassinations during the past year. It is believed that Stein acted as chief “ triggerman ” of a gang headed by Charles Luqiam., who aspires to gain control of. New York rackets, and to occupy a position comparable to that held by A 1 Capone at Chicago. It is believed that Stein killed both the Ambergs as well as Schultz and his henchmen. It is learned that Luciana was in Newark on the day before the Schultz shooting, and the police throughout the east are now searching for him. Stein apparently killed himself out of fear of gang revenge, ’ although careful investigation is being made of the possibility that he was murdered and an attempt made to give the crime the appearance of suicide.
