(Received Oct. 27, at 8 p.m.) At the Moonee Valley; races Martinborough had an impressive win in the St. Albans Handicap, for colts and geldings. Garrio had a well-deserved win in tlie Cox Plate. His owner, A. T. Creswick, also gained third place with Feldspar. Hall Mark, who was second, had every chance. Gay Sheik was the early leader, but tired Sporting Blood was never dangerous. Garrio’s rider, K. Voitre, won earlier on Heroic Chief. Art led nearly always in the Cup. The time was 2min 36Jsec, which knocked sAsec off the course record. The New Zealander Gay Brunette made a favourable impression by winning the St. Albans Handicap for fillies. Hall Mark cut hie hind legs in the Plate but not seriously. The jockey, J, Pike, was called before the stewards to explain his handling of Grand Mogul in the Yarroville Handicap. The inquiry was adjourned until to-mor-row. It will be recalled that Pike missed riding Peter Pan in the Melbourne Cup last year owing to suspension. The jockey F. Hickey was suspended for a month for allowing his mount to interfere with another horse in the Maiden Handicap on Saturday. Following are the results: — HOMEBUSH HANDICAP. STAKES (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) SYDNEY, October 26. The Australian Jockey Club has decided to increase the stakes for the Randwick summer meeting by £IOOO. Two hundred and fifty pounds have been added to the Summer Cup. and the remaining £750 will he distributed among minor events. The smallest prize for a flat race will be £4OO. The recent spring carnival was the most profitable for years.
