SWIMMING CARNIVAL
An attractive programme lias been arranged for the Otago Centre’s first swimming carnival of the season, to lie held at the Municipal Baths, Moray place, to-night, and much interest is being aroused by the appearance of sailors from H.M.S. Dunedin in a number of events, including the staging of a special novelty burlesque. They will also take part in the punt fight which is being arranged by members of the St. Clair Life Saving Club,* and two teams from H.M.S. Dunedin will contest the 133 1-3 Yards Belay, which has attracted 18 teams. H.M.S. Dunedin competed very successfully at a carnival in Invercargill recently, and there are some fine swimmers and divers in the ship's company. Much interest will also centre on the appearance in the 100 Yards Interchib Handicap of the national 100 Yard , and 220 Yards Champion, Walter Jarvis, his brother, S. W. Jarvis, who is the New Zealand intermediate 100 Yards, 220 Yards and 440 Yards champion, and J. D. O’Driscoll, national half-mile champion, and many other well-known swimmers. Altogether the programme should be a most intercoting one. Sailors in uniform will be admitted free.
