WOOL DERBY
The race to Dunkirk with the first of the new season’s wool clip from Australia has been won by the British motor ship Port Wyndham, which established a new record for the journey from Sydney. News was received in Sydney last week that the Norwegian motor shin • Tarouga, which left Sydney on September 17, had reached her destination, her time for the voyage being 30 days 6| hours, including the time difference. The Port Wyndham set the new record by the narrow margin of one hour. Both vessels were constructed specially for the Australian trade, and are among the speediest freighters in the service. The previous record for the voyage was held by the Norwegians, and its recapture by a British freighter was welcomed by shipping men in Sydney as a tribute to British shipbuilding and seamanship. The third ship in the race was diverted around the Cape, and now has no chance of improving upon the Port Wyndham’a time.
