IMPATIENT LOVER
A FLIGHT THAT FAILED A modern love affair in which an aeroplane figured was described at Eastbourne recently. The court was told how. landing in a cricket field on the way to get the consent of his fiancee’s father to their engagement, Andrew Thomas Smith, of Liverpool, was met by a policeman, and then found that the aeroplane had not got the necessary certificates and licences. Smith was summoned as the pilot, and Mrs Evelyn Margaret Robinson, of Slough, as the owner of the aeroplane, for not having the certificates and licences. Smith explained that he had always flown club machines and knew nothing about the papers. He wanted to fly with his fiancee to Eastbourne to obtain her parents’ consent to their engagement and went to Heston for a machine. Failing to get one, he remembered that his friend, Airs Robinson, had one, and borrowed it from her, thinking the papers were in order. Airs Robinson said she had a private aerodrome, but the machine had not been used since November. She was very busy at the time, as she was about to be married. She had intended to renew the certificate of airworthiness. Both were fined £2.
