CONCERT AT MOSGIEL
The Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Choir, assisted by a number of artists, gave a delightful concert last night in the Coronation Hall, Mosgiel, in aid of the funds of the local Municipal Band. The president (Mr John White) was in the chair, and introduced the choir and conductor (Mr J. Leech) and the performers. The opening number was “ Excelsior,” and this was followed by a solo and chorus from “ H.M.S. Pinafore,” “My Gallant Crew, Good Morning.” Mr P. S. Anderson was the soloist. Miss Ruth D. Sell sang two solos, “ Bird 'Songs at Eventide” and “The Lilac Tree.” A part-song, “ 0 Peaceful Night,” by the choir, was followed by a violin solo by Miss Ethel Wallace, “ Gipsy Airs,” her encore number being “ Czardas.” Miss Noni Davidsonls solo was “ The Call of the Maytime,” and her recall number “ Arise, Oh, Sun.” “ The Laughing Chorus ” was the choir’s next partsong, and the concluding item cf the first part of the programme was an Irish cradle song, “ Maureen.” Mrs Frank Denton was the soloist. •' ' The choir opened the second portion of the concert with the nautical partsong, “Up With Jolly Roger.” Miss Noni Davidson presented two solos, “ Looking Homeward ” and “ Love Was Once a Little Boy.” In the choir pansong, “ Tears of Anguish,” Mr L. B. Borrow was soloist. A humorous jecital was given by Miss Winifred Bowie. A pastorale, “A Stream of Silver Moonshine,” by the choir, was followed by Miss Wallace’s violin solos, “ Parted ” and “ Tambourin Chinois.” Miss Sell sang two further solos, a folk song, “ The Bailiff’s Daughter of Islington,” and “My Curly-headed Babby.” Mrs Frank Benton’s songs were “ Sing, Break Into Song ” and “ The Scarecrow.” The choir concluded the programme with m part-song, “ The Border Ballad.” Miss Dorothy Johnston was accompanist. At the close of the programme the choir and performers were accorded s vote of thanks on the motion of the chairman.
