The board’s architects (Messrs Mason and Wales) forwarded the plans and specifications for the proposed Queen Mary Maternity Hospital. The chairman suggested that the plans lie on the table for inspection by the members. The medical superintendent, Dr Dawson, and the honorary staff would then be asked to examine them and report, so that tenders could be closed in December and the board get the work under way by the new year. Mr Silverstone suggested that the chairman and the chairmen of the Works, Finance, and Benevolent Committees might confer with the honorary staff, and if no alterations were found ne'cessary, tenders could then be called. The chairman pointed out that there were 60 pages of specifications, the medical superintendent (Dr Thomson) expressing the opinion that it would take a fortnight to go through the specifications and prepare a report. It was decided that the architect report to the Works Committee, after the officers mentioned had examined the plans, and that the committee should then act with regard to the calling of tenders. COMMITTEE REPORTS. The reports of the Benevolent, Hospital, Sanatorium, and Finance Committees were adopted without discussion.
