TWO DE HAVILLAND MACHINES ARRIVING IN NOVEMBER (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, October 23. Squadron-leader M'Gregor, service manager for Union Airways, returned by the Rangitiki. He said that two 12-seater De Havilland machines for the Palmerston North-Dimedin service would arrive at Lyttelton in November in time for Christmas. Each had four engines, two of which would keep the plane going safely when flying at a speed of 170 miles an hour. HOBSONVILLE AIR BASE IMPROVEMENTS ALMOST COMPLETED. (Per United Press Association* AUCKLAND, October 23. Rapid progress is being made providing for enlarged facilities at the Hobsonville air base. One hundred and fifty Public Works men are levelling the enlarged landing field. Wing-commander Wilkes and Squadron-leader Isitt, after an inspection yesterday, expressed approval of the progress in modernising the base to handle all types of fighting planes. The cliff has "been extensively excavated, the hangars enlarged, and barracks erected to accommodate 80 men. The opening will be in a few days.
